One of my best friends owns a fantastic 2004 Porsche 996 C4S with a glorious six speed manual transmission. How do I know it’s fantastic and glorious? It’s the only Porsche I’ve ever driven and I felt tinglies.

Anyway, he is in need of a new clutch soon and trying to weigh going stock vs. a bit of an upgrade. Any advice on some good options for him to consider would be very much appreciated! FYI he is also replacing the IMS bearing at the same because he is smart. LOL

Hungry Falken Porsche that bit off more than it could chew for your time.

Those Falken Porsches always looked great.

It really depends on what’s available for that car. Some aftermarket companies make great strong street clutches that are as easy to drive as stock, others will be heavy and make your commute miserable. He’ll have to do his research essentially.

IMO:

Why he should upgrade:

1.) Factory clutch has design flaws or is otherwise a poor match for the car.

2.) He plans to upgrade other stuff in the near future.

3.) He plans to beat the car hard enough to need a better setup.

Reasons to stay factory:

1.) He is going to stay stock or mostly so.

2.) He plans to beat on it from time to time but it’s mostly a sunny day car.

3.) He would not be OK with compromising ease of clutching for extra holding strength.
